We celebrate the nation’s birthday this week, so it’s natural to feel that certain surge of patriotism that usually comes each 4th of July. But if you’re like us, we want to make sure we’re showing patriotism all year long! Adlai Stevenson said it well when he said,
“Patriotism is not short, frenzied outbursts of emotion, but the tranquil and steady dedication of a lifetime.”
In that vein, we wanted to share a few ideas on how we can all be a little more patriotic all year round.
Thank a serviceman or woman
We don’t mean on Memorial Day or Independence Day, but anytime you see a member of our armed forces. Our military men and woman face daily difficulties that most of us can’t imagine, not to mention separation from their families. Next time you see one, say thanks!
Obey the laws
Our laws are there to help keep us and everyone around us safe and free to enjoy our lives. Even those pesky traffic laws have a purpose, so be a good citizen by obeying them all!
Get health insurance
Whether you agree with it or not, recent legislation now requires you to purchase Las Vegas health insurance for you and your family. Laws may change in the future, but for now, it’s important to obey the law (and avoid a penalty).
Fly a flag
The 4th of July isn’t the only time to fly Old Glory. You can show your patriotism year round. Granted, many reserve flying the flag for patriotic occasions, like Memorial Day, Flag Day and Veteran’s Day, but if you decide to fly it more often, just make sure you take care to keep the flag in good condition.
Get Involved
Our country was founded by ordinary people who decided to make a difference, and our democracy hinges on the participation of its citizens. So be sure you’re involved in community matters and always, always vote!
Watch the News
Patriotism means being informed and knowing what’s actually going on in your country. If you’re in the dark about current events, make a point to get caught up now.
Your turn! Tell us what makes you patriotic!
